MOU Signing of UNGC CEO Water Mandate - CDP Water (4/24)
The Global Compact Network Korea and the CDP Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on UNGC CEO Water Mandate and CDP Water for increasing water accountability and transparency of domestic companies during the <CDP Korea Report 2018, Climate Change Response and Water Management Award Ceremony> held at the GLAD Hotel in Yeouido on 24 April.
Recognizing that water affects not only the mankind but also the sustainability of whole ecosystem, the Global Compact Network Korea and the CDP Korea will cooperate on the SDG 6 ‘Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all’.
At this event, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, Honorary President of the Global Compact Network Korea and the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, gave a keynote speech on the ‘Role of businesses in responding to climate change and fine dust’. H.E. Ban mentioned that the most rewarding achievement during his tenure at the UN was the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement calls upon government, civil society and academia to gather wisdom to limit the average temperature rise well below 2° C, where businesses in particular should be the key driver to lead the necessary change towards a clean and sustainable economy.
H.E. Ban said he is pleased to announce the signing ceremony between CDP Water and UNGC CEO Water Mandate, which the former utilizes the power of information and investor activism to cope with climate change, while the latter supports companies with a specialized platform for responsible water management. He concluded his speech with expectations for Korean companies to actively join along global movements for solving climate challenges.
